This is a dental implant treatment concept that is commonly used in situations where all the teeth are missing or are soon to be missing.
The technique was first introduced by the Nobel Biocare brand over 20 years ago and has since gained huge popularity due to extensive use and its many advantages.
There has been much research that has gone into this particular technique of treatment and it now has a proven track record of successful outcomes.
Many thousands of patients have benefited from this treatment option. It has unique advantages over other more traditional techniques for both the clinician and the patient.
It is essentially, four implants that are used to support a full arch of fixed prostheses. Hence, its name All-on-4. However, the special variation in the angulation of the particular implants distinguishes it from other simpler techniques. We offer a range of implant treatments.
The alternative option to date has been the use of overdentures placed on more than 4 implants. However, this option requires not only more implants but a removable denture which has always been synonymous with ageing. Also, the teeth cannot be used straight away taking away from the comfort of the patient.
The All-on-4 concept has revolutionised patient satisfaction in the long term. How do we plan your implant treatment?
Use of Angulated or Abutments
The main benefit of this implant concept is the use of specially angulated or tilted abutments. Abutments are the connecting component to the implant. This means that the implant can be placed in the optimal orientation and position that is governed by the remaining jawbone. Furthermore, the actual teeth component of the fixed prosthesis (bridge) is placed according to the best position for the bite.
The discrepancy between the two positions is made up with the titled abutment which can be angled to up to 45 degrees creating a significant positioning.
This is a great innovation since it is commonly seen that in edentulous cases where all the teeth are missing much of the buccal (outside surface) bone has been resorbed away making the subsequent restoration of the arch very difficult.
Traditionally, challenging bone grafting procedures would be applied which would increase treatment expense, time and risk. The full jaw of teeth supported on only four implants. This means that less surgery is necessary. How do implants work?
Reduced Chances of Bone Grafting
If there were less height of the bone than needed for traditional implants, this system would be suitable since its design of implants allows for the discrepancy in bone height. This, in turn, means that bone grafting is not necessary for reducing further expense, time and trauma.

Restores Functionality of Teeth
A full arch of a transitional prosthesis is placed on the same day helping to restore functionality and patient satisfaction at the same. The All-on-4 concept allows for Immediate Implants to be used which means that the teeth can be used immediately after placement. Read more about dental implant benefits.
They are specially designed implants that encourage primary stability of the implant by use of more aggressive threading along with the implant.
Also, special technology has been applied to the surface of the implant that quickly establishes a bio-mechanical connection with. Bone thus supporting fast osseointegration.
An overall cost-effective solution since fewer implants is needed than traditional techniques, systems and designs indicate. We also offer denture treatments at our Hertfordshire clinic.
Great aesthetics can be achieved almost immediately with the formation of a temporary bridge over the implants.
This is fantastic for those that are worried about the ageing edentulous appearance whilst the treatment is progressing. Hence, this treatment is synonymous with a high rate of patient satisfaction.
The main indication for this type of treatment is for those dentitions where the teeth have a poor prognosis and they are failing. The All-on-4 implant treatment helps to evade these deteriorating oral conditions and their associated complications.
In such circumstances, the teeth need to be extracted and patients can be left with an edentulous condition.
This is often associated with further future declining condition and quality of the jawbone, gums and facial form. This leads to the inevitable aged appearance with its resulting loss of self-esteem and self-confidence.
